We have been a part of Club Florida Volleyball for the past two years.

We have watched our daughter grow and improve her volleyball skills. Club Florida has been a good experience for us and our daughter Kirsten. The training and coaching she received this year under Dean and Marci Barboza and the Gold Medal Square program not only helped to improve Kirsten's fundamentals, skills and understanding of the game but, also taught her how to be a team player and exhibit good sportsmanship. Dean and Marci are not only great coaches but great role models for the players. With continued good coaching, guidance and hard work Kirsten can reach the goals she has set for herself.

We’ve been involved with volleyball clubs for nearly eight years. Choosing a club was difficult and we had to weigh the pros and cons for all the clubs we considered. We ultimately chose Club Florida and have been extremely pleased.

Until last year, when we got involved with Rick and Club Florida, we found it to be frustrating, expensive, and tiresome. Frustrating because practices were not scheduled and we were sometimes required to attend impromptu practices. Expensive because we didn’t feel we were getting what we paid for, and tiresome because at times the coaching did not meet our expectations.

We were impressed with the organization of Club Florida during our first encounter at tryouts. We received a packet with all the imperative information which eliminated any guess work and answered many of concerns. Practices were scheduled for the season, expenses explained, tournaments scheduled, and web information available. Club Florida also gave us information on hotels in the area when we had “Away” tournaments. It’s a small detail but one we appreciated.

We were fortunate enough to get Cindy Phillips as our daughters coach. Although she’s a beach volleyball player she taught all the girls solid fundamentals and proper technique. She challenged the girls and worked on their conditioning. She made the game of volleyball fun and the girls looked forward to the workouts and met the challenges Cindy placed before them. It wasn’t always smooth sailing for the girls and they had their moments of rebellion but Cindy held her ground as a good coach should. Cindy showed her love for the game and took extra time with anyone who needed it. Cindy also has beach volleyball clinics which our kids took part in and had a blast. Again she challenges the kids while making it fun.

Rick is dedicated to the game of volleyball. He’s also dedicated to the members of his club. He listens to your concerns and will give you an honest answer whether it’s to your liking or not. We prefer his honesty over someone who tries to pacify us. Clubs are getting larger and thus more kids have less playing time then we’d like but it’s a facet of the game we all have to accept. Rick does his best to accommodate everyone and it’s a difficult juggling act. We appreciate all that he does as well as his coaching staff for the game and for the kids.
